Christian
Pratlong, the present station
chief, joined in 1979.
Christian Proust
had to leave prematurely in 1981 and was replaced by Jean Boulet.
He appreciated the increasing public interest in meteorology,
creating a first exhibition in 1985 with the assistance of the
resident staff.
They created the Association
of the Friends of Aigoual (A. A. A.) in 1988 to protect and
promote the Observatory. Sales of the publication "Meteorology
from A to Z" financed the upkeep of the building and a
start on extending the exhibition.
Thanks to subsidies from the Languedoc-Rousillon region, the
Conseil Général of the Gard and Météo
France, the building was renovated and extended and the exhibition
has grown to 800 square metres.
To diversify Observatory activities and safeguard it from closure,
a test centre for measuring scientific equipment under extreme
conditions was opened in 1993...
